Suggested Batting
Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 - this is a light weight batting that is very durable and perfect for all quilts 80% cotton 20% poly- 96" wide   Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 Black - 80% cotton 20% poly. Great for enhancing the color values in your dark quilts - 108" wide.
Heirloom White or Natural Cotton - this batting is 100% cotton and has a very soft hand and offers great drapability. You can expect 3-5% shrinkage for that traditional look- 96" wide

Hobbs PolyDown - 100% polyester bonded batting that gives great results for those wanting no batting shrinkage but won't breathe like the other 2 types of batting- 108" wide
Hobbs Washable Wool- 100% resin bonded wool , machine washable- tepid gentle cycle and air dry for no shrinkage -108" wide
Dream Cotton Request is 100% cotton, the thinnest batting we use.
A very lightweight feel, sometimes used for baby quilts.

Dream Cotton Select is 100% cotton, it has a low loft, it has a thinner,
softer feel and is used in many throw and bed size quilts.

Polydown batting is 100% manmade fibers, less expensive, can be washed more often.

Warm & Natural is 100% cotton, a denser, warmer batting, has a heavier feel to the quilt.
Great for bed quilts when warmth is the main concern.
Not included in the quilting prices are: batting, backing, binding, pressing, seaming, etc.
Quilt Preparation
The following are some things you can do to insure the best outcome of your quilt!
  • Trim all loose threads from the front and back of your quilt top
  • Reinforce all seams on the outside edges of you quilt top.  When I load the quilt on the frame it does apply a small amount of pressure and these seams can come loose if not backstitched or reinforced.
  • Press all seams flat. The border seams should press towards the quilt top.
  • When piecing your back ( if necessary)  sew with a ½ inch seam allowance after trimming the selvage off. Then press it open and flat. Selvages on the edges are fine. Square up the edges.
  • Check your borders to make sure they are not wavy. Wavy borders are hard to quilt without puckers or tucks. The border will forever be wavy.
  • Batting & Backing, MUST be 3" larger on all sides than the quilt top, quilts will not be quilted if backing and batting are not larger than the quilt top.
  • Include fabric for binding if required, and any sketch of special instructions that might be helpful for a desired look.
  • I am not responsible for folds in fabric due to fullness of piecing.
When you are comfortable with your preparation, please give me a call to make arrangements for your quilting. We will work together to choose a quilting design, thread color, etc
I will notify you when your quilt is finished. If I am shipping your quilt back to you I will need full payment before shipping.  I accept checks.
Thanks for choosing Steimel Quilting for your quilting needs!
